Starting from December 13, 2024, the new General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) of the European Union comes into effect. This new regulation requires a series of additional information requirements from sellers to ensure the safety of products marketed in the European Union. The new European regulation will apply to all European marketplaces.
What should sellers on marketplaces do?
To comply with the GPSR, it is essential that you identify and provide the following information for each of your products:
- Responsible person in the EU: Each product must have a designated contact within the EU who consumers or authorities can directly contact. You need to provide the name, registered trademark, and contact information (address and email) of the manufacturer or their authorized representative in the EU. BigBuy, as a supplier, cannot assume this role. This responsibility falls on the manufacturer or importer.
- Provide complete product information: This includes accurate images and descriptions of the product.
- Safety information: Add warnings and safety instructions in the language of the country where the product is sold.
- Update your listings: Sellers should directly consult the platform of each marketplace (Amazon, Miravia, eBay, AliExpress, etc.) to learn about the specific procedures and tools available for uploading the information required by the GPSR. Each platform has its own guides and requirements, so it is essential to follow their instructions.
Why is it so important?
Ensuring compliance with the regulation will allow sellers to keep products on marketplaces and avoid potential penalties.
How to find the necessary information to comply with the GPSR?
- To locate the information needed to add to the product’s sales page in European marketplaces where it is marketed, you can:
- Directly consult the brand manufacturer’s information, finding their contact details online using search engines.
- Perform an advanced search on marketplaces. For example, Amazon uses filters such as “ASIN,” “Brand,” and “Model” to find detailed product listings. In the “Product Details” or “Technical Specifications” section, you can also find information about the manufacturer and country of origin.
We understand that obtaining all the required information can be a challenge for many sellers. BigBuy customers have support and specific teams to advise on different needs during the application of the GPSR regulation. At BigBuy, we have developed a guide that explains step by step how to comply with this new regulation and the specific actions to implement and processes in the most important marketplaces.
