In this article, you will learn how to change the main currency in your Shopify store and, depending on the theme, how to offer your customers a choice of different currencies.
1. Changing the main currency of the store
- Activate the conversion rate (currency) option under ‘Pricing strategy’ in the Multichannel Integration Platform (MIP).
- Add the exact value for the conversion to the new currency that you will set up in your Shopify shop.
- Make a new publication to save the conversion rate changes in your shop.
- Once the publication has finished, you can set up the new currency in Shopify by clicking on Settings > Store details> Store currency.
2. Adding other currencies in Shopify
Some themes allow you to configure different currencies in the store and automatically convert the default to the currency selected by the customer.
We show you in an example of our theme ‘Prague’ (theme that allows the configuration of multiple currencies) how to add other currencies on Shopify.
- Go to Online store > Themes > Customize.
- Click on Theme settings > Currency conversion to add or change the currency available in your store.
- Within the Currency conversion, you will find different options to configure the currency in your store.
Some of the most important options are:
- Enable Currency Conversion → This option enables or disables the store currency selector.
- Supported Currencies → Allows you to add the ISO codes for the currencies that you want to have in your store. These are always separated by spaces (example: “EUR UDS”).
Keep in mind that not all the themes have currency configuration. The themes for our 360 stores that allow currency configuration are Prague, California and Shanghai. The function may be displayed differently within the themes that offer it. There are apps offered by Shopìfy that manage the creation of currencies and exchange rates in the store. As these apps are external to BigBuy, you accept responsibility for their use.
